The LoRa street light controller is a wireless connectivity system for street lights, with optional dimming capability. This control unit requires a GSM + LoRa street light feed controller unit to be present within a 3KM range of the streetlight to function properly. It can be installed on an existing LED street light.
- Provides a unique identity to every light
- Offers wireless on/off control using the GSM + LoRa street light feed controller unit
- Detects and reports faults in street lights instantly
- Allows independent control of street lights based on calendar and timer settings
- Detects grounding/earthing-related faults in the street light
- Detects and reports low luminance/output in light
- Extends the life of LED lights by detecting and reporting overheating of light units
- Allows instant manual control of lights from a software control system
- IP66 weatherproof, polycarbonate enclosure with UV stabilization
- Built-in SMPS for the controller unit
- Built-in power consumption detection for street lamp
- Built-in ports for luminance and temperature detection
- Built-in 25dbm LoRa modem for wireless communication up to 3KM
The LoRaWAN street light controller is a LoRaWAN-alliance network compatible street light control system. It can link to any available LoRaWAN network in the area and does not require a GSM + LoRa street light feed controller unit to function.
The dimmer system over LoRa offers energy-saving benefits over conventional LED street lights. It allows LED lights to be adjusted in over 100 settings of dim control.
Advantages of using a LoRa street light controller with dimmer:
- Moonlight based dim control for maximum energy savings: 10-15% energy saving.
- Early morning/evening energy saving system: 4-8% energy savings.
- Extends life of LED and prevents over-heating by dynamically adjusting dim level: Up to 10,000 hours additional life for LED lamps.
- Occupancy sensor extension allows lamps to be lit at low level until a pedestrian or vehicle is detected.
- Mesh network over LoRa allows several neighboring lights to become bright as soon as a pedestrian or vehicle is detected.
- 60-80% energy savings can be made in residential colonies street lights and low traffic streets when occupancy sensor based mesh systems are used.

GSM + LoRa street light RTU (Remote Terminal Units):
- A street light feed controller is a local server for a group of lights. This feeder unit typically controls 10-500 lights in an area.
- A feeder system has dual connectivity for GSM for connectivity to central control room and LoRa connectivity for street lights. A feeder system is not required for LoRaWAN controllers but it is an important part of LoRa street light controllers.
- WAN connectivity is available for GSM 2G/3G/4G models and for Ethernet and Wi-Fi models.
- There is overall energy consumption tracking for lights.
- Street lights have a regulated power supply, with built-in power backup for the feeder unit, and built-in storage space for recording street-light data when GSM connectivity isn't available temporarily.
- A ready application stack enables LoRa street light manufacturers to integrate their products into smart city systems globally.
LoRa smart streetlight controller features:
- Staff can use a laptop/mobile for LiteCloud's web interface.
- The system operates on an IP network and can be powered by your own software or a managed LiteCloud server.
- It uses 2G/4G GSM connectivity for the IP network.
- The Streetlight Controller Gateway Unit can control 220v electricity cable in single or 3-phases.
- LUCI (LoRa Universal Control Instrument) is optional for individual light control/dimming.
Challenges of conventional street lighting systems include:
- Street lights can only be turned on/off.
- Street lamp control is managed through timed scheduler switches or manually.
- Detecting street lamp failures is difficult as multiple lamps are connected to a single feeder system.
- Present street light systems are not adaptable to local weather.
Smart city street light control solution on LoRa includes:
- Feeder system with luminance sensors to capture the availability of ambient light.
- Dimming control for street lamps based on ambient light availability, with dim control on a scale of 0 to 9.
- LoRa-based wireless and ultra-low-power consumption control system to manage street lamps.
- Retrofitting option to dim LED street lamps with PWM controllers.
- An accurate and real-time lamp failure detection system to report failed street lamps.
- Manual override remote control for feeder systems to adjust street lamp schedules and dim controls.
- Live map-based street lamp status check system over cloud-hosted software.
